Parents accused of receiving goats to conceal defilement cases in Embu

Security agents in Embu North County have raised an alarm over increasing cases of parents receiving gifts to conceal defilement cases.

Embu North Deputy County Commissioner, Abdlatiff Hussein, accused parents from the county of demanding for gifts, in form of goats, from the accused to conceal defilement and rape cases.

He said that this is a violation of the victim’s rights and parents found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The Children Act is clear on how defilement and rape cases should be dealt with and some parents are busy asking for goats. This is a violation of the law,” said Hussein.

Embu North OCPD, James Karisa, noted that only few cases of defilement and rape were being reported in the area despite such cases being rampant.

He recalled an incident where a 3-year-old girl was defiled by a 40-year-old man at Kithugururu village and parents of the victim failed to report the case. He thanked a group of women who brought the case to his attention.

The two security bosses called upon the residents to be at the forefront in defending the children rather than oppressing them.
