Parents of 14 Riverside attack suspects surrender to police in Isiolo

Parents of three suspects appearing in a wanted list in connection to the terror attack at 14 Riverside business complex have presented themselves to the police in Isiolo claiming their children are innocent.

Officers probing the incident had previously released a list of six suspects who are believed to be armed and dangerous.

Citizen Digital understands that detectives believe the six persons of interest are high-ranking officials who operate from an Isiolo-based al-Shabaab sleeper cell.

Sources privy to the high level operation to arrest them told Citizen TV that the suspects are responsible for the formation of one of the most active Al Shabaab recruitment cells in Isiolo formed between May and June 2017.

Didu Mohamed Fugicha alias Dingdong, also known as Duktur, Hussein Adan Hussein alias Etto, Gaddafi aka Munene, Abdi Ali Kanchora, Boru Abdi Bidu and Ramadhan Wario Bonaya alias Rash are believed to have had a hand in the DussitD2 attack that left 21 dead and scores injured.

Salim Gichunge who played a key role in the 14 Riverside attack was reportedly recruited and radicalized at the Isiolo-based sleeper cell.

Gichunge is said to have spent most of his life in Isiolo’s Kula Mawe estate.

Top on the police wanted list is Ibrahim Abdulrahman Mohamed alias Van Persie, who is based in Somalia.

He is said to be a key recruiter and a facilitator for Isiolo recruits.

Van Persie reportedly targets secondary school boys and boda boda riders in Isiolo who have conspicously gone missing after a promise of money and better lives for their families.

Officers have established the route taken by youth radicalized and recruited from Isiolo to avoid detection.

They move from Isiolo to Moyale, into Takaba then Elwak in Mandera County before entering Somalia.
