Parents of baby found with 14 needles charged
The parents to the 10 month old baby who was found with 14 sewing needles in her body were on Tuesday arraigned before a Thika court charged with subjecting the child to torture.
The two, Jacinta Ndunge, 31, the mother and father Isaac Gichure, 41, were charged before senior resident magistrate Grace Omodho. They pleaded not guilty and applied to be released on bond.
Mr. Gicheru pleaded his innocence claiming he is taking care of other children who depend on his income for survival.
“I am incapable of harming my own child, the other children depend on me for survival,” said Mr. Gicheru.
Ms. Ndunge distanced herself from the saga as well saying she needs to be home as the baby needs to be breastfed.
Dorothy Aswani, who led the prosecution, objected the application saying that the two could interfere with the witness as they are parents to the child who is the subject of the case.
The magistrate agreed with the prosecution and the two will be remanded till December 11 when the case will be mentioned.
