Parents of baby with needles in body have case to answer: Court

A Thika court has ruled that the parents to the baby found with 14 sewing needles in her body have a case to answer.

According to Senior Resident Magistrate Brenda Bartoo, the two will be required to defend themselves over charge of causing bodily harm by inserting blunt objects into her body through her buttocks.

During a hearing last month, Jacinta Ndunge and Isaac Gichura maintained that they were innocent even after witnesses tabled evidence implicating them.

One of the witnesses, Dr. Ng’etich, indicated that the medical report presented before the court showed that the baby’s buttocks had scars likely suggesting that the needles passed through there.

The court is set to issue judgment to the first accused Isaac Gichura on June 6, 2018 while the second accused Jacinta Ndunge will table her defense on May 23, 2018 and will provide witnesses if she has any.
