Parents of Benghazi victims sue Clinton

The parents of two Americans killed in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 have sued Democratic presidential nominee Hilary Clinton for the deaths of their sons.

Patricia Smith and Charles Woods, on Monday (August 8) filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Clinton who was Secretary of State when the attacks took place.

Smith, whose son Sean was a U.S. Foreign Service officer in Benghazi, gave an emotional testimony on the death of her son on the first night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Smith blamed Clinton personally for the death of her son, saying “she deserves to be in stripes.”

Four Americans, including U.S. ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the attack at the U.S. mission compound.

Clinton has long defended her leadership in Libya as America’s top diplomat and denied longstanding Republican allegations that she personally turned down requests to beef up security in Benghazi.

But the fallout from the attacks has dogged her on the campaign trail, with her rival Donald Trump repeatedly charging that she was personally responsible for the deaths of the four Americans.
