Parents, two women arrested in Embu over FGM
Two women were on Friday morning arrested in Karao Village in Embu North Sub County for subjecting two girls to female genital mutilation (FGM).
The two girls were taken to Embu Level five and Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment while the parents are being held up at Manyatta police station.
Embu North OCPD Mark Wanjala said local provincial administrators got a tip-off from neighbors that the girls had been circumcised at Karao village.
Wanjala said he mobilized police officers and residents who raided the village and arrested the parents, but the circumciser is still at a large.
The girls are 7 and 9 years old.
Wanjala said that cases of FGM area have been rampant and patrols have been intensified to ensure no more girls fall victim.
The parents will be arraigned in court on Monday.
