Parliament Pushing for Reallocation of Stimulus Package to CDF

The Parliamentary Budget Committee is pushing for the package meant for the National Economic Stimulus to be channelled through the Constituency Development Fund kitty so as to revive stalled projects.

Speaking on Sunday when he commissioned several CDF-funded infrastructural programs at Muminji in his constituency, Mbeere North MP Muriuki Njagagua said members are concerned that funds allocated under the stimulus program are under-utilised as a result of lack of appropriate policy guidelines and structures.

Njagagua said the committee, in which he is a member, has already made proposals which once passed will ensure that this concept coined by President Uhuru Kenyatta during his tenure as Finance Minister is revived.

ROAD PROJECTS

He said that several market stores, health facilities and education institutions stand to be revived once the proposals are incorporated into the forthcoming 2014/2015 financial year.

He further stated that CDF is committed to improve road projects so as to open up the region and spur economic growth.

On the raging debate in Embu County recently triggered by High Court ruling that upheld impeachment of embattled Governor Martin Nyaga Wambora, the MP called for sobriety on resolving the issue, adding that everybody must respect court rulings irrespective of whether they are favourable to them.

"The due process of the law must be allowed to take its course in dealing with Governor Wambora's issue," he said.

The legislator added that once the Court of Appeal where Mr Wambora is reported to have moved to seek redress gives its ruling, legal procedures governing assumption of office by the incumbent Deputy Governor should take precedence.

Others present were MCA Newton Kariuki of Muminji Ward and his Nominated counterpart Lois Mbuya accompanied the MP.

The two condemned attempts by certain politicians in the county to create ethnic divisions among the Embu and Mbeere communities.
