Parliament Resumes Sittings This Afternoon

In its first sitting from at 2:30pm, the National Assembly is expected to constitute the powerful House Business Committee which sets the agenda for the house.

The Senate will be meeting today for the second time since last Friday when it held an extra ordinary session to constitute an 11 member committee to probe the impeachment of Embu Governor Martin Wambora.

The law required the Senate to do so within the stipulated timelines after the Embu County Assembly impeached him last week.

Among other issues that face the National Assembly is passing of bills that were not concluded in the previous session.

They include the Marriage Bill, the National Police Service Amendment Bill and Protection Against Domestic Violence Bill among others.

Also on the plate of the 349 Members of the National Assembly are several pending committee reports that will also be considered for adoption, rejection or amendment by the House.

The re-opening of the two chambers of Parliament come a day after two major political alliances held their parliamentary group meetings in a bid to strategize on how to approach Parliament this session.

The Jubilee alliance held their meeting at State House, Nairobi under the chairmanship of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

CORD on the other hand held a two day retreat in Naivasha after which it vowed to keep the Jubilee government in check.

Leaders in the meeting that was also attended by the three principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula pushed for the ejection of leaders perceived to be Jubilee moles.
