Parties urged to tame violent supporters
Leadership of leading political outfits, Jubilee and NASA, have been asked to tame their supporters to reduce the increasing rate of intolerance in the country with 25 days to the much-awaited August 8 polls.
According to former Permanent Secretary for Gender, Prof. Jackline Oduol, the current spate of intolerance must be brought to an end because it is a recipe for hatred and violence.
Prof. Oduol, who was speaking in reference to the recent cases where youth have heckled some leaders in areas that are perceived to be strongholds of their opponents, stated that it is very unfair to block any leader from reaching any part of this country.
She was speaking during a meeting with women leaders of the Luo Council of Elders from the entire Nyanza region at a hotel in Siaya town where she asked supporters of various political leaders to embrace tolerance.
The former PS added that they should just be giving leaders a chance to sell their ideologies irrespective of their political divide and make informed decision come August 8 when they go to the polls.
