Party primaries deadline stands – IEBC

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Sunday, April 23 ruled out extension of Wednesday, April 26 deadline for political parties to conduct their nominations.

Speaking after a meeting with Chairpersons of political parties National Election Boards, at the IEBC head offices in Nairobi, IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, said all political parties must conduct their nominations by Wednesday.

Chebukati also insisted that all political parties conducting nominations must use their membership list during party primaries.

The poll body chair further called on political parties to abide by the Electoral Code of Conduct to ensure peaceful and violence-free nominations and also resolve disputes arising from their primaries by the May 10, 2017.

This comes just a day after Jubilee Party cancelled its primaries with ODM recording cancellations in various counties following irregularities experienced during the process.
