Pass Bills improving teachers salaries, Tunai tell MPs

Narok County Governor Samuel ole Tunai is now calling upon Members of Parliament (MPs) to see into it that a Bill championing for the rights of teachers and an improvement in their salaries for teachers have been tabled and passed into law.

The governor expressed his sympathy for the struggles that teachers in the country, especially those working in ASAL regions, go through and now wants their hardship allowances doubled from what they are getting currently.

“I feel for teachers, and I will liaise with Narok MPs to see that they have tabled a Bill to support teachers especially in hardship areas. You see the problem is the president can’t just wake up and increase teachers’ salaries, it is a parliamentary procedure,” said the governor.

Governor Tunai, who was addressing all primary school teachers in the county yesterday (26th March), however, assured the teachers of the Jubilee Administration’s commitment to improving teacher’s working conditions.

“Compared to other governments, Jubilee has tried to improve lives of teachers in the country. Through the Controller of Budget’s Office, it has allocated additional Ksh6 million for supporting education in our county,” revealed the governor.

On matters politics, the governor accused opposition leaders of castigating a government that according to him “has outclassed previous regimes in developing the country.”
