Pass law to ensure KDF families are supported, MPs told

Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai has asked Members of Parliament to pass a law that will see children of fallen Kenya Defence Force (KDF) officers taken care of by the government.

Tunai said this will enable the children of KDF soldiers killed in the line of duty not suffer after they lose their parents, who might be their sole bread winners.

The governor was speaking at Nairegie Enkare in Narok during the burial of Robert Kang’ethe, who died during the terror attack at El Adde in Somalia on January 15th.

The 30-year-old soldier is said to have postponed his wedding plans four times and later cancelled his honeymoon to take up the El Adde duty, only to perish in the Al Shabaab siege on an AMISOM camp.

An unknown number of Kenyan soldiers were killed in the January 15th attack.

The Kenya Defence Forces camp had a company of not more than 120 soldiers.

Earlier, Al Shabaab said that it had captured some KDF soldiers during the attack.

General Samson Mwathethe said the KDF embarked on a search, rescue and recovery operation immediately after the attack but noted that it was a delicate operation.

Mwathethe later said that the Al Shabaab commander who masterminded the assault on the Kenyan army base is believed to have been killed in air raids by Kenyan warplanes.

The strikes targeted two Al Shabaab camps where the militants were hiding.
