Passaris walks off in protest over Sonko bwana yako remarks

There was drama during the Madaraka Day celebrations after Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris walked off as the Governor Mike Sonko was speaking.

Their differences played out in public with the crowd that had gathered at Pumwani Secondary School booing and jeering as she stepped off the podium.

Earlier in her speech, she had urged the governor to unite political leaders in Nairobi even as she seemingly questioned Sonko’s use of money.

“I don’t have a lot of money, the little I have I share, the governor has money, ” she said.

But it was the governor’s response that caught even Passaris off guard.

“Unanipigia simu mimi si bwana yako,” Sonko said while giving his speech which saw Passaris decide to leave the celebration.

Earlier, the Governor rode into the school grounds abode a boda boda, donning an outfit of city inspectorate officials and complete with a cap bearing the Nairobi county government logo.

“I’m dressed like this today so that you can know I am the commander in chief and I will not sit back and watch the people suffer,” he said.

And in Kiambu county, the celebrations would also be marred by the supremacy wars between Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his deputy James Nyoro.

“Kama ulikubali kuwa deputy governor, halafu nikapigania kiti ya governor nikashinda halafu unataka kuwa governor,” Waititu said in his speech on Saturday.

In Laikipia, former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga stormed the grounds where the celebrations were being held accompanied by drones of youth.

Security officers however managed to contain the situation.

And in the pastoralist counties of Baringo and West Pokot, insecurity dominated the speeches, leaders calling for tolerance and peaceful co-existence.
