Passenger bus burnt down in Homa Bay, two hospitalised

Police in Homa Bay County have launched a manhunt for boda boda riders who torched a passenger bus in Homa Bay town early Sunday (December 10).

The bus belonging to Otange Sacco was travelling from Nairobi when it stopped at a petrol station within the town to drop a passenger before a bodaboda rider who was speeding  rammed into it from behind.

According to an eyewitness, luggage was being offloaded from the vehicle when the motorcycle rider hit the bus, injuring himself and the pillion passenger.

It was then that other boda boda riders attacked the bus driver, forcing him to flee before they set the bus ablaze using petrol they acquired from their motorbikes.

Homa Bay OCPD Essau Ochorokodi confirmed the incident, saying that the rider and his passenger were rushed the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital where they are recuperating.

According to the OCPD, no traveler was injured during the incident but some luggage belonging to the passengers were burnt down.

“Currently we have not made any arrest but investigations have already been launched to arrest those to burnt down that bus,” said Mr Ochorokodi.
