Passengers escape death as Matatu overturns on Thika road

Thirteen passengers escaped death by a whisker after a 14-seater matatu they were travelling in lost control and overturned on the Thika superhighway at Juja, Kiambu County.

According to Juja OCPD Simon Kirikwa, the matatu belonging to 2TS Sacco was ferrying a football team from Thika  to Dandora for a match.

The 13 passengers secured bruises and minor injuries during the accident that caused a traffic snarl up along the busy highway.

After the accident, the players hired another vehicle and proceeded to Dandora for the football match.

The OCPD said investigations had been launched to establish what caused the matatu to overturn.

He added that an inspection will also be conducted to establish whether the vehicle, which was towed Juja Police Station, was faulty.
