Passengers robbed as thugs hijack Nairobi-bound matatu

Police are investigating an incident where a 14-seater matatu heading to Nairobi from Nyahururu town was hijacked on Saturday night and passengers robbed of their belongings.

According to police, one of the passengers requested to alight, the driver stopped and came out of the vehicle to remove a luggage from the carrier belonging to the said passenger.

Suddenly, the said passenger turned to be a robber and four people emerged and took charge of the vehicle, ordering all the passengers including the driver to lie down inside the matatu.

The vehicle was driven to an unknown location where the passengers were robbed of their cash and money in their M-Pesa and KCB M-Pesa accounts totaling to over Ksh.100,000 and electronics.

No one was injured during the 9.30pm incident.

After the robbery, the driver was given back the vehicle and drove to Lari Police Station where he reported the matter.
