Pastor among three arrested over alleged criminal activities in Malindi

A Malindi-based pastor is among three men arrested on Saturday in connection with alleged criminal activities in Watamu.

Speaking to the press, Malindi sub-county Police Commander Phillip Wambugu said the three were arrested at Timboni area and a fire arm as well as several rounds of ammunition were recovered.

“Following tip offs from at least six members of the public, our officers commenced investigations that led to the arrests. We assure the informers that we shall protect their confidentiality,” he said.

“We recovered four smart phones and eight sim cards from the suspects when our officers stormed their house. Five identity cards belonging to suspected victims of crimes were also recovered.”

Mr. Wambugu added that owners of the identity cards recovered from the suspects will be contacted through the office of the registrar of persons.

Malindi Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anthony Sunguti on his part stated that the identities of those in custody will remain concealed since investigations are still ongoing.

“We will be moving to court on Monday to request them (suspects) to be detained as we want to summon victims of previous crimes so that we present the suspects for an identification parade since they might be linked to previous crimes,” said Mr. Sunguti.
