Pastor arrested over laptop theft

A man identified as Pastor Stephen Ochieng’ has been arrested by police in Ruiru after he was allegedly linked to the theft of laptops from university students.

Divisional police commander Isaac Thuranira said the man was caught with at least five laptops that had reportedly been stolen from college students after tricking them with job offers.

The suspect reportedly approached the students and told them that he would get them jobs with a church organisation, but it was mandatory that they go for interviews with their laptops.

“The man would offer to give the students a ride in a hired car and on reaching an isolated area, he would pretend that the vehicle had developed mechanical problems and tell them to alight and push it, only for him to drive off with the laptops,” Thuranira said.

More than twenty students from Kenyatta University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Zetech University and Nairobi Institute of Business Studies have fallen victim to the theft.

The OCPD appealed to students whose laptops have been stolen by the man to come out and Identify him so that they would have a solid case against him.

He also urged university students to be careful when talking to strangers.

“When you are offered a job you need to confirm from the necessary government agencies before you accept the offer. Do not be deceived by imposters,” he advised.

Mr Ochieng’ is expected to appear in court this week.
