Pastor drowns after car plunges into dam in Gatanga
The body of a pastor whose car plunged into a dam at coffee estate on Gatanga Road in Murang’a County has been retrieved.
Witnesses said the preacher, Edwin Livuta, was travelling alone in the car after he had just dropped off his children at the farm.
Following the incident that occurred on Saturday, the Murang’a County fire department mobilized divers to rescue the driver who witnesses said attempted to jump out of the moving car in vain before it plunged into the dam.
Even though their efforts to save the pastor failed, the National Disaster Management Unit deputy director Pius Masai commended the county for a quick response and coordinated teamwork that saw even the Murang’a County Governor Mwangi wa Iria leading responders at the scene.
The county also mobilized divers from Kilimambogo, Kiambu County to assist in the rescue mission at the dam located several kilometers from Thika Town.
