Pastor who promised duo jobs in Kuwait charged with fraud

A Nairobi man claiming to be a pastor was on Thursday arraigned for allegedly obtaining Ksh.148,000 by false pretense.

The accused, Anthony Mutua Mwangangi, who was before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot was accused of deceiving two people that he could secure a job for them in Kuwait.

Trading as Manpower recruiting agency, Mutua is alleged that on diverse dates between December 19, 2019 and February 1, 2019 along Tubman road in Nairobi County, with intent to defraud, obtained Ksh.117,000 from Ibrahim Yakub by falsely pretending he was in a position to secure him a job placement as a driver in Kuwait, a fact he knew to be false.

Mutua also faced a second count where he is purported to have obtained Ksh.31,000 from Hadija Musa Mohammed by falsely pretending to be in a position to secure her a job placement as a security guard in Kuwait, a fact he knew to be false.

Mutua however pleaded not guilty to the charges telling the court that he is a pastor who is anointed by God and as such is not capable of such deceitful behavior.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000. The case will be heard on September 6, 2019.
