Patel Dam owner Perry Mansukh surrenders to police

Patel dam owner Perry Mansukh Kansagara and three co-accused have been arrested after they surrendered to the police early Thursday.

The arrest came a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered for his arrest alongside the farm General Manager Vinoj Kumar and other officials on charges of manslaughter.

Mansukh and company surrendered to police at the Naivasha police Division headquarters before being taken to court where they are expected to be charged with manslaughter.

Several Water Resources Authority and National Environment Management Authority officers are also targeted over the Patel Dam tragedy that killed 47 people in May and left many others injured in Solai, Nakuru County.

According to DPP Noordin Haji, investigators found that the construction of the dam was done by unqualified staff using farm equipment leading to construction and design flaws.

Haji further noted that a water permit was issued irregularly and that the dam owners, NEMA and the Water Rsources Authority failed to ensure environmental compliance.

This comes even as members of the Senate Committee investigating the tragedy alleged intimidation.
