Patient killed in Mwingi hospital laid to rest

Fredrick Ngandi Musyemi, the patient who was brutally murdered at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital was on Saturday laid to rest in an emotional ceremony at Kathiani Village in Kitui County.

The ceremony, which was attended by few people, saw family members demand for justice and answers regarding his murder in the hospital.

Jane Muania, the area chief, however assured mourners that the government was looking into the matter.

Kisungo Mwalili, a family member, further appealed to police to bring those involved in their kin’s murder to book.

Fredrick Ngandi was killed last week by unknown people at the Mwingi Level 4 Hospital.

An autopsy done Thursday, September 1 at the Mwingi Level 4 Hospital revealed that he was fatally shot 11 times in close range.

The five-hour exercise was conducted at the hospital’s mortuary by a team of medics led by Chief Government Pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor, in presence of Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers probing the case.

Family members of the deceased were also present during the exercise.

Addressing journalists at the hospital after concluding the postmortem, Dr Oduor said a total of eleven bullets were found in the body of the victim.

He said, according to the nature of the wounds inflicted on the late Ngandi’s body, he was shot in close range with a pistol.

Dr Oduor said bullets recovered from the body would be used to help detectives in probing the dreadful incident.

The incident caused tension at the hospital prompting the institution’s management to beef up security in the facility.

Medical Superintendent, Henry Mutune, said they had sought security from the area administration police.

He added that the County Government of Kitui is in the process of installing Ksh.10 milion CCTV equipment in a bid to improve security surveillance in Kitui and Mwingi hospitals.
