Patient with coronavirus-like symptoms put in isolation in Mandera

The Mandera County Referral Hospital is closely monitoring a patient who travelled from Nairobi and developed a fever.

His temperature was reported to be 39 degrees but he had no other signs of COVID-19.

He had flown to Mandera on Monday and is currently in an isolation ward.

Test samples have been sent to Nairobi for analysis.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba said the county has screened over 10,0000 people on the country’s border with Somalia and Ethiopia and at the airstrip.

He also noted that those traveling by road are also being screened.

The Governor said although the county has set aside several isolation centres, samples still have to be sent to Nairobi for testing yet the capital city is very far.

According to him, the county only has 200 masks with limited equipment to fight coronavirus in the event of an outbreak.

He said the county is doing its best in terms of fumigating public spaces and conducting awareness campaigns.
