Peace talks dominate GG Kariuki burial speeches

Peace talks dominate GG Kariuki burial speeches

The call for peace to prevail as the country heads to the August 8 General Election dominated the political messages during the burial ceremony of the Late Laikipia Senator, GG Kariuki.

This comes amid recent chaos witnessed during Jubilee and NASA campaign rallies in Kisumu and Kiambu Counties.

Led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the leaders are now urging residents, especially those in areas affected by banditry attacks, not to be swayed into violence by politicians.

“I want to tell all perpetrators of bandit attacks without fear that we, the government, will look for you and you will be caught,” said the President.

Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, advocated for a special committee consisting of members from all the communities affected by the bandits menace to sit down and craft a lasting solution once and for all.

“I want to tell people of Laikipia who are our neighbors in Baringo. We, as leaders of the North Rift region, will meet soon to come up with a solution so that we don’t kill each other any how,” said the Senator.

Nevertheless, Laikipia Governor, Joshua Irungu, paid tribute to the late GG, singling out the vigor to enhance security in the county and settling the landless as the main achievements of the Senator.

“GG is our dad in this county and we will remember him for how he championed for the rights of our people to acquire land and security to prevail even at his old age,” said Governor Irungu.

Perhaps these words by the leaders come as a sigh of relief to Laikipia residents who have been battling with a series of attacks, from the neighboring Baringo, West Pokot and Samburu Counties, with the land issue said to be the main reason of the clashes.
