Pedestrian hit and killed during a police chase in Siaya

A 45-year-old man was on Monday killed after being hit by a police vehicle near Wang’ Neno on the Ugunja-Ukwala road.

 The man, identified as Michael Odhiambo Oduor, was walking along the road towards Nzoia trading center when he was hit and killed instantly by an Administration Police Landcruiser heading towards Ugunja from Ukwala.

 According to his cousin George Okech, the police vehicle was chasing a Toyota Probox when the accident occurred.

 He claims that after hitting Odhiambo, the driver of the Police Landcruiser came to a halt, but when he realized the man had died, he turned around and sped back to Ukwala, leaving the deceased’s body at the scene.

 Okech stated that it was at that point that they called the police from the Siranga patrol base, who arrived on the scene before alerting their counterparts from the Ukwala and Ugunja police stations, who came and picked up the body and moved it to the Ukwala sub-county hospital mortuary.
