Persons with disabilities decry high cost of learning materials
The government through the ministry of education has been petitioned to subsidize the prices of learning materials for persons with disability to enable them have easier access to quality education.
Siaya County Assembly representative for persons with disability, Ms Margaret Adhiambo Okech, said there is need to subsidize the prices of learning aids such braille machines, sign language books and hearing aids among other materials.
She argues that most persons with disabilities have had many challenges in accessing quality education due to the high price of such commodities, which most schools cannot afford.
Ms Okech lamented that often persons with disabilities are forced to hold fundraisings to enable them acquire such materials, which is according to her very unfair.
The county assembly representative was speaking to Radio Ramogi in Bondo Town.
