Peter Kenneth confident Jubilee will pick one candidate for Nairobi gubernatorial race

Nairobi County Gubernatorial Aspirant Peter Kenneth says he is ready for talks to form a united Jubilee that can front a single candidate to take on Kidero in the polls.

“We need to tolerate each other. We need to understand that for us in Jubilee we’ve said it’s either consensus [or] if it doesn’t work we go for the nomination. We are ready for it,” said Kenneth.

The former Gatanga legislator is facing stiff competition for the Jubilee Party ticket to vie for the capital city’s top job from Nairobi politicians in the same party led by Senator Mike Sonko, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru.

The city politicians have ganged up to appoint one of them to vie on a Jubilee Party ticket, thereby locking out Peter Kenneth.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has maintained that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will conduct the Jubilee Party nominations, even after the opposition threatened to move to court to block the exercise.

Speaking at Garissa High School during the issuance of bursaries for schools in the area, Duale said the Constitution allows the electoral body to conduct party primaries.

Duale also dismissed claims by CORD that IEBC will use taxpayers’ money for the nomination, saying the resources to be used have been budgeted for and passed by the National Assembly.

Last week, Jubilee struck a deal with the Wafula Chebukati-led commission and agreed to have members from both sides meet and plan how they will conduct the Jubilee Party primaries.
