Petrol Stations Selling Adulterated Products Closed Down

The 16 petroleum outlets were allegedly found selling the adulterated products between October last year and January this year.

 

According to an advert placed on national newspapers today, the ERC shut down the outlets in several towns countrywide including the capital, Nairobi.

 

Petroleum stations shut down in Nairobi include Oilcom Thika Road Station in Roysambu, Shell Bidii Station and Hass in Eastleigh and Mamba Service Station in Industrial Area.

 

Other counties where petrol stations were closed Kisumu, Kakamega, Embu, Meru and Kirinyaga.

 

ERC together with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and other government agencies conducted a countrywide monitoring exercise that revealed sell of adulterated products.

 

The law prohibits the storage and sale of petroleum products that do not conform to the Kenya Bureau of Standards

 

County Commissioners in the respective counties withdrew the licenses of the operators.

 

Defaulters were further required to pay penalties and taxes prescribed under the applicable tax laws before consideration for resumption of business.

 

ERC, KRA, KEBS and other government agencies shall continue to carry out the monitoring of petroleum outlets.
