Transport has been paralysed along the Kasarani-Mwiki Road after matatu operators blocked the route on Wednesday night.

They barricaded the road with stones to protest its poor state that has been made worse by heavy rains.

Reports indicate that commuters have been forced to walk for about 5km to Roysambu to get other vehicles to transport them to work.

Residents had started complaining about the road on Wednesday with some criticising Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko for ignoring their plight.

“@MikeSonko @citizentvkenya @StandardKenya @dailynation could someone please highlight the plight of this kasarani-mwiki residents. If it’s taken up by the media maybe someone will wake up,” Amos Ngugi said on Twitter.

Shikoh Njooro added: “@MikeSonko this is Kasarani – Mwiki Road..we Swim everyday to work and back home. Kindly RT so that we can shame the County Government #kasaranimatatustrike.”

Pictures doing rounds on social media show the flooded Kasarani-Mwiki Road with sharp stones peeping through the water.

Motorists lamented that some of their vehicles have been damaged because there is no route with better roads that they can use.

“Excuse me @MikeSonko you and your people came and dug up this section of Kasarani – Mwiki road lakini ni Kama kumaliza imewashinda. Unatakaje sasa? We are suffering every morning and evening!” Sheila Kari said.
