The reality star walked a special "white carpet" at Cirpriani's in New York where the entertainment trade magazine honored a group of powerful and famous women in the industry, including Kardashian West, for their philanthropic work.

"Well, you know, I think we all want to get a peak at Kim Kardashian West. I'm not above saying that out loud," said award-winning filmmaker Lena Dunham, who was also an honoree at the event.

Kardashian West, whose step-father Bruce Jenner has made headlines for his sexual transformation and who will be the focus of a much-anticipated two-hour special with journalist Diane Sawyer later on Friday, said her family would rally around their embattled patriarch.

"I think that, you know, we always support each other. Our family is super supportive of everything that we do and, you know, we're going to watch the special tonight and support Bruce and watch it with him tonight," she said.

Dunham was also supportive of Jenner and defended comments she made earlier in the week about the need to protect Jenner from criticism and jokes.

"I said that because I feel as though the jokes at Bruce Jenner's expense have gone even further to reveal the homophobia and transphobia that exists in our culture and that what people don't understand is when they make a joke about Bruce Jenner they're not just making a joke about one celebrity who may have been on a reality show, they're making a joke about every young person who is struggling with their gender identity, sexuality and it's not funny," she said.

Also on Kardashian West's mind was the memorializing the Armenian genocide during World War I. The half-Armenian recently returned from a much publicized trip to her cultural homeland with her cousins from Los Angeles.

"Going to Armenia was such an eye-opening experience and I'm so proud to say that I've been now. I think it is a continuous fight that we will do what we can to get people to recognize it and I see so many people are now so much more aware of what has gone on. I have friends and people come up to me and say they have never even heard about it before. So, that's sad in itself, but I'm glad that people are now at least becoming more aware and I think in due time it will be recognized by everyone, I'm hopeful," She said.

Singer-songwriter turned celebrity cook and lifestyle guru, Trisha Yearwod, was also on hand at the the luncheon. The grammy-ward winner earned accolades for her support of women's issues.

"I have three young girls and what I say to them is what I would say to women everywhere, is to really, really own your power," said Yearwood when asked what she would advice she would give younger women.

"When you're being true to yourself that's the most powerful thing. So figure out what that is and make sure. . . I mean I'm the happiest when I'm making decisions that I know are right for me, when I'm not compromising what's important to me."

Also being honored a the Variety luncheon were Whoopi Goldberg, Rachel Weisz and Glenn Close. (REUTERS)
