Christmas came early for looters in Roysambu after a truck with crates of beer overturned on Thika Road.

Scores were seen scrambling for beer bottles as motorists slowed down to catch a glimpse of the chaos.

Pictures later emerged of the looters making away with beer bottles and crates branded Balozi from the scene of the accident.

Balozi is a malt-based, sugar-free brand under the East African Breweries Limited whose headquarters are located in Ruaraka.

Ruaraka is a 16-minute drive from Roysambu where the accident occurred.

On Saturday, looters were all smiles even as police fired teargas in the air to disperse the crowd.

One James Kironi who spotted a Glovo rider in the melee said: “If your food delivery is late see your guy” with Eric Njiru adding: “Hahahaha the guy who had ordered food had to wait!”

Another Twitter user, Ciutu, said of a man selling the loot to a passing motorist: “Baridi ama warm? And don’t hic drive and drink.”

“Roysambu is lit! If people had these kind of motivation in life Kenya ingekua Mbali,” Stephen Thande said.

“A mission is a Mission. Not even teargas could stop it,” Lazooj added.

Robin Lequiz added: “I was there at 4am na makarau wakatufukuza only to let people drink at 7am.”

In December last year, a similar incident occurred in Kagio town, Kirinyaga County.

A truck ferrying alcoholic drinks overturned less than a kilometre to its destination.

The accident that occurred at 4pm saw looters scramble for bottles; women were not left behind as they sang and danced in celebration.

Police who arrived moments later found empty beer crates and beer bottles on the road.

The driver and his assistant however escaped unhurt.
