A vehicle ferrying KCSE examination papers to a school in Mwingi Central, Kitui County, was on Monday morning swept by flooding waters at River Karura.

The vehicle was transporting Maths paper II and Biology paper I exams to Wikithuki Secondary School when it was overwhelmed by the ravaging waters caused by the ongoing heavy downpour in Mwingi.

Confirming the incident, Kitui County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich said that the school’s head teacher and the driver were rescued safely, although the starting time of the papers was delayed.

The KCSE exam papers were safely salvaged from the vehicle by local residents who joined the rescue mission.

The area MCA, James Musyoka, called upon the national government to erect a foot bridge and a strong road along the river, to avoid such incidences in future.

“I better resign if the government will not address this issue immediately since the president can’t sit and watch the residents suffer. This should not be witnessed again,” said the MCA.
