PICTURES: Madonna Trips on Stage at the Brit Awards

Celebrated pop singer Madonna's perfomance at the Brit Awards 2015 was slightly discoloured when she tumbled mid-performance after her Armani cape, specifically designed for that performance, pulled her a set of steps down the stage.

The 56-year-old stage veteran tripped on the final step during the final show of the night when dancers pulled her cape from behind before she had time to fully untie it, bringing her down on her back and shoulders with a bang.

Madonna however dusted herself off, brushed over her hair and stood up to ascend the steps once again without the cape and carried on to put up a stellar performance.

According a source quoted by the Daily Mail, Madonna had vowed, during rehearsals, to give her best performance to cap her return to the Brit Awards where she had last performed 20 years ago in front of stars, including Prince and Oasis.

STELLAR PERFORMANCE

The star had gone as far as using a vaporiser to soothe her vocal cords during practice as the rehearsal got to her.

Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith were the most decorated artists of the night, with Ed walking home with the British Male Solo Artist and British Album Of The Year while Sam won the Global Success Award (presennted by Kim Kardashian) and British Breakthrough Awards.

Taylor Swift won the International Female Solo Artist award (presented by F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and Ellie Goulding).

Music group One Direction won the British artist Video Of The Year award.

Other performances of the night were from Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra and Kanye West, who has had awakened a storm for his use of the "N word" during his performance.

The event was held at the 02 Arena in London on Wedensady night.
