Plane crashes into airport parking lot killing three on board

3 people on board of a small single engine plane were pronounced dead, local news sources reported the Reno-Tahoe Airport spokesperson said, in the late afternoon hours on Sunday (September 11).

The Piper Cherokee, single engine plane reportedly crashed almost immediately after takeoff and landed atop of parked vehicles at the airport parking lot.

No one on the ground was injured by the crash, however some 100 vehicles remains off limits to their drivers as they fall in the taped off area and will remain in the parking lot overnight.

The plane was reportedly attempting to fly to San Carlos Airport in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
