Plans underway for Kipchoge to adopt Kaptagat Forest as training site

World athletics champion Eliud Kipchoge EGH will soon have Kaptagat Forest as one of his training locations.

According to Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Julius Kamau, the spot in Uasin Gishu County is unique because of its altitude.

“Forests provide ideal training grounds for Kenyan athletes and towards this, plans are underway for Eliud Kipchoge to adopt Kaptagat Forest in Uasin Gishu County, as one of his ideal high altitude training locations in the country,” he said.

Mr. Kamau noted the link between forests and athletics in Kenya as he urged corporate organizations to support conservation as part of their CSR activities.

He said forest conversation is also in line with the national target of attaining 10% tree cover within the next three years.

He was speaking on Saturday when the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) feted the world renowned athlete for a marathon at Karura Forest.

The event saw Kipchoge also plant trees at Amani Gardens.

Others who took part were James Mworia (Centum Group CEO), Rita Kavashe (Isuzu East Africa MD) as well as representatives from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and Friends of Karura.
