Plot to kick out LSK president Allen Gichuhi

A notice of motion was on Thursday filed at the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) for the removal of the organization’s president, Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi from office.

Mr. Slyvester Mbithi Muli is set to move the motion at the LSK special general meeting scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Nairobi.

During the meeting, Mr. Mbithi will also be pushing for the ouster of Ms. Roseline Odede as General Membership Representative of the LSK.

In the motion, Mr. Mbithi claims that prior to the election of Mr. Gichuhi and Ms. Odede to the said positions in February this year, they had served in the LSK council, hence, were ineligible to contest in the polls.

“Both Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi and Roseline Odede served the Law Society of Kenya council under the Repealed Law Society of Kenya Act Cap. 18 Laws of Kenya on diverse periods.

“As such and pursuant to Section 43(2) of the Law Society of Kenya No.21 of 2014, both Allen and Roseline were ineligible to contest for elections held on February 22, 2018 having served as council members under the repealed Act,” reads a notice of the motion.

During the upcoming general meeting, Mr. Mbithi will be seeking to have the election of Mr. Gichuhi and Ms. Odede declared illegal, null and void.

He will also ask the LSK members to pass a resolution to have Ms. Harriette Chigai, the current LSK Vice President, continue as President of LSK for the remainder of the current term and another member elected to replace Ms Odede.
