PNU has no political muscle to defeat Jubilee Linturi

Igembe South Member of Parliament Mithika Linturi has downplayed Meru Governor Peter Munya’s interest in running for president in the 2022 elections.

Speaking during the ordination of the EAPC Clergy on Saturday, Linturi said that Governor Munya does not have the political clout to form the next government, terming his campaigns in Meru as an exercise in futility.

“There is no way that PNU can form government or take the people of Meru anywhere,” said Linturi.

“Munya cannot base his campaigns in Meru alone and say he wants to be president in 2022. That is utter deception.”

Linturi, who is eying the Meru senatorial seat in the next election, said Governor Munya had failed to unite the people of Meru under his PNU party, terming his 2017 re-election bid as a failed mission.

He challenged the governor to stretch out his campaign to other counties as an indication of his seriousness to lead the country in 2022.

“If Governor Munya has been unable to work with 11 elected leaders in Meru County, how then will he be able to work with the entire country?”

He further called on the people of Meru to register under the Jubilee Party, and vote for Jubilee candidates in the 2017 elections so that they can be part of the next government under President Uhuru Kenyatta, whom he said, will be the outright winner in the presidential election.

Munya has been in the firing line for most leaders in Meru who joined Jubilee party ahead of the next polls.

After the region’s perceived party APK dissolved and joined Jubilee, Munya decided to take a different path and join PNU, a party affiliated with former President Mwai Kibaki.

Munya further openly declared his interest in the 2022 presidential elections putting him against Deputy President William Ruto who has also announced his presidential bid in the same election.

The PNU party leader has however said would support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 elections.
