PNU is not a goat, Munya to Kiraitu

Meru Governor, Peter Munya, has responded to the sentiments made by Senator Kiraitu Murungi who likened the Party of National Unity (PNU) to a goat in a pen waiting to be slaughtered on the voting day.

Munya, the PNU party leader, accused Kiraitu of playing old-age politics that has no space in the current democratic world and that is of no benefit to the people of Meru and the Mt Kenya region at large.

Speaking at the launch of the Jubilee Party smart card at Kasarani on Friday, January 13, Meru Senator, Kiraitu Murungi, said that there is a goat called PNU going round Mt Kenya region and that will be slaughtered in August.

Munya said that Kiraitu should realize and accept that he is a ‘spent cartridge’ in the politics of Meru and that he should retire and leave the leadership of the Meru community to the generation behind him.

The governor reminded Kiraitu that he was once a member of PNU and even served as its Party Secretary General asking why he did not refer the party as a goat at that time.

Speaking in Embu while opening a PNU office, the Council of Governors chairman, said that Kiraitu is jealous of him after he dissolved the Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) to merge with other parties under the Jubilee Party.

Munya urged Kiraitu to accept that he is now the senior most politician in Meru being the chairman of the Council of Governors, deputizing the President at the inter-governmental meetings and also being the Party leader of PNU.

The governor said that that would be the last time he would respond to Kiraitu arguing that in his status, as a party leader, he will only be responding to issues raised by other party leaders and not ordinary party members.

Munya reiterated that the party will support President Kenyatta’s re-election campaign but will field other candidates in all the other elective politics.

He said those calling for the formation of one party want to take the country back to the ancient KANU days where democracy was not respected.
