Pokot political aspirants warned against incitement

A section of leaders and elders from West Pokot County have cautioned political aspirants against inciting communities in the North Rift region for political gains.

Led by West Pokot Governor, Simon Kachapin, the leaders said that national and county governments have worked hard to ensure the communities live in peace.

“We, as elected leaders, will not entertain disruption of peace by a few leaders because of their selfish interests. We are not ready to see bloodshed in the region,” he said.

He also encouraged residents to help steer the development agenda, adding that most counties in the North Rift region are marginalized.

“For many years since independence, we have been lagging behind in development and in this era of devolution, you should not vote for leaders who don’t want to spearhead development. We should pull resources together to ensure it happens,” he added.

Chairman of the Pokot Council of Elders, John Mwok, echoed in the Governor’s words saying that they will not accept leadership of people who are known for inciting communities.

Mwok added that children from regions that were previously affected by cattle rustling can now access education and any attempts to incite them will not be tolerated.

The leaders were speaking in West Pokot on Wednesday, October 19 during a regular state of security meet.
