Police arrest four suspected child trafickers, rescue 3-month old baby

Police in Nyandarua South have arrested four suspects in connection with conspiracy to steal a child and managed to find a three and a half month old baby boy stolen in Ndunyu Njeri two weeks ago.

Two suspects, among them a house help and her husband, were arrested in Kangeta area, Meru County while the other two were arrested at Githurai, Nairobi.

According to Nyandarua South OCPD Samson Munyao, police managed to arrest the house help at a home in Meru County after she allegedly stole the child identified as Kelvin Kimanji Njenga when the parents were away.

Mr Munyao said the child disappeared March 10 this year, moments after the child’s mother Grace Wambui, aged 25, had returned to her place of work at Muki Sacco.

The OCPD said the it was a challenging task to trace the house help, identified as Caroline Muthoni Kinuthia, since she had used a fake name and a stolen identification Card.

FAKE MOBILE NUMBERS

He said mobile phone numbers she had provided to her employer had also been acquired through dubious means, making the search for the child more difficult.

However, through technology, the suspects was tracked down at Meru’s Kangeta Trading Centre and the child found alive.

Mr Munyao noted that despite arresting the suspects, their details were still scanty since they do not have official names and hence the matter requires further investigations to also unravel the syndicate.

He called on employers to keenly scrutinize details of the people they employ as house helps to ensure they do not engage criminals disguised as house helps.

The suspects are now being held at the Kinangop Police Station as investigations continues.
