Police arrest Mombasa MCA over forgery

Police in Mombasa have arrested Kongowea MCA Jabez Muthai over claims of obtaining two vehicles using forged documents.

Muthai was at his King’orani residence when he was taken into custody at the Dog Section Police Station in Kisauni area.

Confirming the incident, Kisauni Deputy OCPD Tom Abondo said police arrested Muthai after the owner of the two cars reported the matter to police and he is being held for questioning.

However, speaking to journalists at the police station Muthai maintained that he was innocent and insisted that he only took possession of the two vehicles after the German national failed to clear a debt of Sh1.8 million that he borrowed from him.

On 26th December 2015, a British court jailed a Kenyan man for four years after stolen cars destined for Africa were traced to him.

Police traced two cars to Stephen Ruto, 48, from Birmingham at Fast Safe Storage in Smethwick.

The cars, a Ford Focus valued at, Sh458, 646 and a Sh11,007,519 Range Rover were traced to him.

Ruto was convicted by Shrewsbury Crown Court of the acquisition, retention and use of stolen property.

West Midlands Police said 17 cars with a value of Sh45,864,664 had been recovered.

In October police in Kayole recovered three stolen vehicles and arrested two people suspected to be behind a car-theft syndicate.

Kayole Deputy OCPD Eshiphan Gichohi said one of the vehicles was recovered on Manyanja Road, four hours after the owner reported that he had been carjacked along the Eastern Bypass.

One of the stolen vehicles that were seized along Manyanja Road was a Toyota Probox with registration number KBQ 886G and a suspect by the name Josephat Kihara Kimani was arrested.

While the other vehicle a Toyota Lexus with registration number KBQ 410L was reported to have been stolen from a parking yard.
