Police arrest Salgaa protesters suspected of torching fire engine

Police in Nakuru County have arrested two people and are now looking for 14 others at Salgaa area over the torching of Nakuru’s only fire engine.

Anti riot police officers have been deployed in the area following reports that another protest has been planned for Friday.

Meanwhile, Nakuru County has acquired two new fire engines after protestors set on fire the only engine in the county.

The driver of the burnt engine, was earlier summoned by County Secretary Joseph Motari as it emerged that he had left Nakuru without authority.

According to Motari, procedure requires that a work ticket be signed and a report of the disaster being responded to is also made in a police station.

This comes just two days after Salgaa residents took to the streets to protest the poor state of roads in the area.

The residents also claimed that Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s government had failed to repair the roads and further demanded for functional street lights, drainage system and parking.

The residents say they are not getting services owed to them by the county government yet they remit rates to it.
