Police arrest three terror suspects in Mombasa

Police are holding three men who were suspected of planning a terror attack in Mombasa.

The three, Mohammed Hussein, Roba Abdile and Aden Abdulla, were arrested while attempting to make an illegal MPesa registration at Mwembe Tayari after the dealer tipped off police on patrol.

One of the suspects is said to have tried to register the line on Tuesday night while using an identity card belonging to an unidentified woman.

Reports indicate that the suspects, who hail from Tana River, had booked a room at the Salian Lodge in Bondeni.

Police launched a crackdown at the hotel where they recovered 54 rounds of ammunition, two identity cards and a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) identification number.

The arrest comes days after one suspected Al Shabaab militant was killed and four others injured after an IED they were planting along a road in Mandera exploded.

The Saturday incident occurred along the Mandera – El Wak Road, just one kilometre from where another incident occurred where suspects ambushed a bus killing two people and wounded others.
