Justice Lucy Gitari also granted Patrick Njiru Kuria and his wife Leah Njeri Njiru anticipatory bail of Ksh.200,000 on condition that they will appear in court after seven days.

Mr. Njiru, who is a brother to Kirinyaga Woman Rep. Wangui Ngirichi, moved to court together with his wife on Monday to block an alleged plan to arrest them after a store they own was raided by police.

“It is hereby ordered pending the hearing and determination of this application. This Honorable Court do and hereby admit the Applicant herein on Bail pending arrest or in the alternative, to release him on his execution of a bond without sureties for his appearance and subsequently the police be restrained from arresting the applicants herein,” ruled the court.

The matter, which was certified as urgent, will be mentioned on Thursday.

On Sunday, Ms. Ngirichi had asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to expose those behind the sale of counterfeit sugar in a bid to save innocent traders who are being viewed suspiciously by buyers and even harassed by law enforcers.

According to the woman-rep., one of the consignments impounded at Paleah Stores in Ruiru town is owned by her brother and speculations are rife that she could also be involved the business with her husband Andrew Ngirichi.

The politician said to avoid speculation, Dr. Matiang’i needs to release the names urgently and ensure that those involved are dealt with according to the law.
