Police beat up MCA during illicit brew operation

A Nakuru MCA is nursing injuries at Nakuru War Memorial Hospital after an altercation with the police during an illicit brew swoop in the outskirts of Nakuru Town.

Nakuru Town East MCA, James Humphrey Mwaniki, was allegedly beaten by anti riot officers after he led a group of locals to raid a liquor shop in Barnabas Estate that is reportedly to be owned by a traffic officer in Nakuru.

Mwaniki is said to have prevented the officers from arresting the youths who were raiding the liquor shop, which was suspected of having second-generation brews.

The MCA was rescued by other MCAs from Mwariki Police Station, where he had been detained despite having sustained injuries on the head, arms and legs.

The MCAs took him to Mediheal Hospital where he was later transferred to Nakuru War Memorial Hospital and hospitalised

Nominated MCA Catherine Waweru condemned the incident and called for investigations into the matter without fear or favor.

Efforts to reach the Nakuru Police Boss on the matter did not bear any fruits by the time this article was being published.
