Police boss arrested after student shot dead in Kisumu bar

A Chief Inspector of Police is in police custody over the death of a student inside a bar in Kisumu.

The deceased, who was a student at Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) Kisumu campus, was reportedly shot on the chest using a Cesca pistol.

Nyanza Regional Police Boss Leornard Katana has confirmed that the officer was arrested on Friday and investigations launched into the incident.

“No one is above the law and action will be taken upon conclusion of the probe,” he said.

According to Katana, the two were drinking together at a bar in Mamboleo area when a brawl ensued and the student was shot.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the suspect is an OCS based at Isebania Police Station in Migori County.

Hundreds of students from different universities in Kisumu held demonstrations demanding for legal action.

Jimmy Magero, a campus leader at the University of Nairobi’s Kisumu campus leader said they want the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to urgently take action against the accused officer.
