Police Boss Cancels Training of Recruits Amid Protests

In a statement, the IG said that the National Police Service Commission in conjunction with the National Police Service will carry out a recruitment exercise for young Kenyans wishing to join the Police Service on Monday, April 20th, 2015.

All persons wishing to participate in the recruitment process are required to carry with them their academic and professional documentation and testimonials (if any) both originals and photocopies to their respective recruitment centres.

The recruits whose reporting date has been cancelled have been encouraged to participate in the forthcoming exercise.

On Friday, NPSC chair Johnston Kavuludi announced fresh recruitment of 10,000 officers.

Defying Kavuludi's recruitment order

Hundreds of police recruits who were to start training on Sunday as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta have camped at Uhuru Park protesting the order.

The recruits argue they will suffer huge losses if they do not report to Kiganjo Police Training College.

The recruits say they have already done their shopping and others have resigned from current employment and travelled long distances in readiness for training starting tomorrow, Sunday.

The recruits have said they will ignore Kavuludi’s order and report for training at Kiganjo.

The recruits are now urging President Kenyatta to issue a further directive on the matter.
