Police commandant on “Rogue” officer caught on camera
Kericho County Police Commandant James Mugare says that police have launched a probe into an incident captured on a now viral video, where a female police officer is taped seemingly harassing a lady motorist.
In the video, the officer is seen tugging forcefully at the motorist’s clothes, and pushing her forcefully against a silver vehicle.
Mugare termed the incident as unfortunate, adding that all the officers who were doing the traffic checks on Sunday had recorded their statements over the same,
The County Commandant promised to communicate the outcome of the investigations to the public soon, promising that those found guilty will be brought to book.
Mugare urged the officers to conduct themselves professionally to avoid altercations like those seen on the clip.
Mugure says the lady motorist had been speeding at Chepseon Area, and when she was stopped near Kaisugu area by the traffic officers, she refuted the allegations, demanding to be shown proof that he was speeding.
Mugare added that while the officers were still waiting for a clip that captured her speeding, other passengers in the vehicle started an argument with the officer.
The commandant says that this prompted the officer to arrest the lady motorist, escorting her to Kericho police station for further processing.
According to Mugure, the motorist resisted arrest, causing the altercation with the officer.
The video has since has sparked public outcry, with many calling for the prosecution of the officer.
