Police confiscate 300 cartons of stolen medicine

Police in Mombasa have recovered 300 cartons of medical drugs worth Ksh 8 million alleged to have been stolen from a lorry along the busy Mombasa – Nairobi Highway earlier this month.

According to Coast Police Investigations boss, Pius Macharia, the consignment was stolen near Maungu area when the driver of the lorry got drugged by unknown persons after he went to answer a call of nature.

He noted that police recovered the stolen items in a godown in Miritini area after they received a tip-off from members of the public.

However, he said that the owners of the premises managed to escape but security agencies are currently trailing them.

According to police, the 300 cartons of medical drugs were being transported from the Port of Mombasa to Nairobi and had been imported by a businessman from Dubai.
