Police confiscate bhang worth Ksh 2.14 Million in Migori

214 kilograms of bhang were confiscated by police in Awendo along Isebania –Rongo highway on Friday evening.

The vehicle, a KAU 369 Toyota station wagon, was ferrying six bags of bhang, valued at Ksh2.14million to an unknown destination when it was intercepted by the anti-narcotics unit officers. The suspects, however,  managed to escape.

Confirming the incident, Migori County Police Commander David Kirui said officers managed to intercept the vehicle after trailing it for several hours. He said the car had red ribbons on its side mirrors to indicate that it was ferrying either a corpse or mourners.

The police boss said the drug traffickers are coming up with various tricks evade police traps. He urged members of the public to work closely with the police in fighting Kenya’s drug menace.

Kirui said police are planning meetings with their Tanzanian counterparts to discuss drug trafficking across the border. He explained that most of the bhang making its way to Kenya is from Tanzania, where cultivation of bhang is legalised.
